I think they have to buy him out this year or there is no other option? I'm going to have to plead ignorance on the intricacies of the new CBA but I thought the amnesty buyout period was this summer and thats it?

Each team has up to 2 buyouts. They can use it this year or the year after. NY only has one left because of Redden buyout.
