Well, to me, it was pretty clear that Cervenka wasn't an NHLer after a few games. He clearly has some offensive talent, but the guy is a poor and slow skater, has no physical game, doesn't go to the hard areas, and clearly has never been forced to play defense in his career. With flaws like that, you need to have elite level skill to even crack an NHL line-up (ie; Kyle Wellwood) and that's hard to find in 26 year olds playing in Europe. That's just poor scouting by the Flames.

Wings signed a similar guy in Damian Brunner and he looks like a top 6 guy going forward.
Ducks signed Viktor Fasth who could be their next starter.
These moves DO pay off sometimes, and a lot of times they don't.
Doesn't mean you stop doing them. Though I also think if you are trying to turn your organization around on the back of these types of moves - you are a fool.

I agree. I just contend that the Flames as an organization have to scout these guys better or it's just a waste of time, money, and the opportunity cost of getting someone else in the line-up. The Flames shouldn't stop trying, but simply bringing over another extreme longshot and pray for a miracle is a negative to the organization in the end.
