Of our UFAs, I would sign McGrattan to league minimum & one of Aliu or Nemisz (only because we have ZERO RW depth). I'd try & sign Carson to a 2-way deal, which I doubt he accepts. I'd also test Agostino's resolve to stay at Yale by offering him a nice entry-level deal.
The _____blanks_____ in the lineup are filled at camp. McGrattan, Bouma, Reinhart, Jones, Aliu, Nemisz & to a lesser extent Hanowski all battle it out for bottom 6 roles. Cundari, Carson, Breen, Smith, Wotherspoon & Kulak duke it out for bottom pairing & 7th D roles.
Feaster makes a play for various UFAs, mainly Horton, Fillpula, Ribeiro (yuck) & Mike Smith. Thankfully, none of them sign.
If I were GM, this is what I'd try at the draft:
To TB: CGY 1st round pick (6) + PITT 1st round pick (25-30)
To CGY: TB 1st round pick (3) Mackinnon, Drouin or Barkov
(6th overall + another 1st rounder is more than enough to trade up to #3. I'm not sure it's really worth it, but if Mackinnon is still on the board then it certainly could be)
To LA: Alex Tanguay
To CGY: LA 2013 2nd round pick
(Darryl would sanction this as he's always used 2nd rounders as currency )
With #3 select Mackinnon, #19-22 select Pulock (who drops) and grab Eric Comrie late 2nd round.
Go into the season with:
Glenncross/Stajan/Stempniak
Baertschi/Backlund/Hudler
Cammalleri/Mackinnon/Horak
McGrattan/Reinhart/Jackman
Bouma
Giordano/Wideman
Brodie/Sarich
Butler/Cundari
Breen
MacDonald

TB would never do that trade. To get into the top 3 is going to cost more than a late 1st round pick.
LA has no need for Tanguay. Who's spot on the top 6 for LA would he replace? Also its not up to Sutter to trade a 2nd round pick, he is not the GM.
Flames also don't have a 2nd round pick.
