I believe the game is called differently for different players but that is true in almost any sport. The problem with the NBA is there are more infractions called throughout a game compared to other sports. You see the same thing with pitchers in the MLB and quarterbacks in the NFL.
And because fouls in the NBA is similar to holding in the NFL where it can be called every play you have different refs seeing different things, you have refs giving star players more calls, etc. It's human nature (error) and sports.
