Oh, the KHL would break their agreement with the NHL in a heartbeat to get a guy like Ovechkin or Kovalchuk to return home. But as moon notes, it would result in a major war at the IIHF level, because you can guarantee that the NHL is going to insist the federation suspend said player from international competition.
