It's difficult to develop defencemen they are often more of an unpredictable curve than forwards, top ones don't come available very often.

Just a slam dunk if I was Gillis. He needs to shed salary and the Canuck prospect pool is very poor........I would trade Edler for the 7th pick and sign another d-man at a lesser salary. You then hope a player like Tanev or Corrado take a step forward next year to solidify the defense.
I guess I'm just not impressed with him the past season or so, and I liked his play 2+ years ago.....if he's starting to level off and he's going to make 5 million until 2019 I'd make that deal.
