If the Canucks and their fans feel that they were subjected to biased officiating throughout the series, my point to them is that it was of their own doing. Certain teams and players have earned particular reputations throughout the years. The Philadelphia Flyers and Boston Bruins during the 1970s played a particular brand of hockey that resulted in a lot of penalties. There were countless calls that went against them due to the perception that they were probably guilty of the infraction even if they weren't. They earned the reputation of being a bit thuggish and the calls certainly went against them a lot of the time.
The same can be said for Vancouver. The countless acts of diving, embellishing, calling out opposing players, calling out officials, has come home, as they say, to roost. This version of the Vancouver Canucks have earned their reputation as a moderately dishonest team that has zero compunction in trying to con the referees into calling penalties in their favour. No match official, in any sport, likes to be made fool of. The Canucks have succeeded brilliantly in creating an atmosphere where officials undoubtedly question whether they should make certain calls or not. They have become pariahs within the NHL as a result of this pattern of behaviour. It's not just the players on ice that are guilty of this but the organisation as a whole seems to be OK with it. Vigneault certainly has no problem with it and when a club behaves in a particular way, from the top down, it should be no surprise to any rational hockey fan that Vancouver deserves the reputation that they have cultivated.
They have no one to blame but themselves.
