Of course people can choose between airlines. And I agree WJ services have decayed a bit. I think the concept of this thread has jumped the shark when people complain that the airline, moving someone across the country at 500mph is complaining about diet coke instead of coke zero.
Airlines do some pretty horrible things, some things even more egregious than a lack of selection of diet carbonated beverages. But one thing that's evolved over the years that is as bad as the awful service, and that is princess travelers. If people don't like the entertainment systems mix in an iPad and who knows, maybe bring your own coke zero on to the plane.

Yes, I'm serious. I've rarely had a problem with the in-flight entertainment system on Air Canada, a reset required once or twice, and I don't recall ever having it not function at all. I fly almost exclusively on the E-190s to Ottawa and back, so it might be different on different planes.
I flew to Cancun last year on an old 767 (it still had ashtrays in the arm rest), and that was a pretty bad experience. The E-190s are great, though.
Also, I'm incredibly petty, so it doesn't take much for me to stop giving a company my business.
