Its funny, but I got addicted to the series Lockup, and in the Federal prisons unless there is a direct threat the sexual offenders are locked up in General Population. When they talked to a couple on one episode from Marion they said their survival is based on being contrite about their crimes and not bragging about them to gain any kind of credibility.
But at a fed level because of prison crowding they just put them in the main population.
