The way these work (or at least how the Heritage Classic worked here) is that the league basically buys a sellout from the home team, then sells all the tickets to the game as a separate event, with the revenue going into the general league-wide revenue.

For the home team, the specific revenue they receive from ticket sales is exactly the same as if they had been playing in their home arena and sold out the game.

The Rangers typically play in front of capacity crowds, but the Devils and Islanders do not. It makes a lot more sense for those games to be on the schedule as Rangers road games. It's probably also a lot cheaper for the League to buy the games from the Devils and Islanders than the Rangers, so it means more money into league-wide HRR.
