Fair enough, I do agree with you to a degree, but he brings a unique perspective when he does talk about it that is refreshing. It seems whenever he talks hockey, he is making a case for it because he knows many listeners don't like it. He is absolutely fascinated about things that I sometimes take for granted, such as the pace of the game and the attrition that is hockey playoffs. When he frames this with his high degree of knowledge in other sports, it shines a different light on the game.
He does get very solid and consistent hockey interviews during playoff season as well, and his perspectives spill into those. Gretzky (big Rome guy) used to come in a couple times during the playoffs for primers of different series'. Donald S. has been on consistently, and even predicted at the beginning of the 06 season that Anaheim would beat Ottawa for the cup (then spent a year talking about it). Yzerman, Getzlaf, Toews... Even Iggy was on leading up to the Salt Lake Olympics.
I could easily listen to Rome talk hockey. Whereas with the hockey central crew, it is pretty much just a dumber, louder, more watered down version of the topics discussed on this forum.
