The problem was clearly the old man country club we had going on. It wasn't Iginla's fault, but he was the focus and major cause of that attitude. I appreicate what Iggy did, but it's clear things went on for too long. The team offered far too many long term/NTC to guys Iggy liked. We ended up with an umotivated bunch doing the bare minimum.
The Pitts deal was a win/win/win. Iggy, Pitts, and the Flames all get what they needed. I'll echo other posters in saying that I was initially shocked by the trade. I wanted Iggy to re-sign with Calgary in the off season. Now, however, after seeing the kids play and actually try. I could care less if Iggy comes back. If he does, he'd better be treated less like the centrepiece of the team. That role belongs to guys like Baertschi now.
