The Kessel trade wasn't that bad, he was a top ten player in the league this year, and going forward could be a better player than Seguin at least. If you include Hamilton it is pretty lopsided, but in hindsight it made sense at the time. It just gets a ton more exposure because it involved the Leafs, but you could argue many worse trades have been made since then (the Phaneuf trade, James Neal, etc).
I agree that Burke is the best option out there; I don't think he was the best GM in the league, but perhaps in the top ten. He would be a huge step up over what we have though. I just wonder if he'd want to come to Calgary, Burke doesn't seem to be the type who would want to deal with meddling owners (he said as much when he left Toronto). I am going to be pretty depressed if/when another team signs him though, as there really isn't anyone else available at the moment.
