Nieuwendyk turned down a 3 year, $6m offer from the Flames, after getting $1.85m awarded in arbitration that year (according to wiki)...and ended up signing not much more per year ($11m over 5 years, so $2.2 per year) with Dallas.

I didn't know what they were offering, but my understanding was that at the time of his holdout, he was getting paid less than Kisio, and the offers didn't sweeten until well after he held out. The Flames may have come back with an offer as described in Wikipedia, but by that time I suspect the the bridges had been burned.
