So basically, we have 2 national airlines that offer mediocre service, but not at bargain prices. They are essentially the same now. In fact, I swear that they have price collusion.

Not exactly. Air Canada has brought their prices down to match Westjet. AC still loses money. Without WJ they would surely raise prices. Take a look at what's going to happen when Encore comes to town. AC is already having to lower their fares out of YXJ, YCD to match.
