You're also looking at spin vs results wrt your complaint about the Islanders. Matt Moulson is a three-time 30-goal scorer who is averaging a point per game this year. Brad Boyes was added this year, and they have good support pieces in Nielsen, Streit and Okposo. Vishnovsky has been huge for them on the blueline, and Nabokov has solidified their goaltending (though his numbers are not outstanding.)

The Islanders don't have the same level of pure top-end talent the Oilers do, but they have a much stronger team from top to bottom. That is why they are in the playoffs. Put John Tavares in Hall's place with the Oilers, and Edmonton is still deep in lottery territory.
so you are saying that Hall > Tavares and the Islanders are way ahead of the Oilers because
Moulson > Eberle,
Nielson > RHN,
Okposo > Gagner
Grabner > Yakapov

AND the left over Islanders are better than Hemsky-Horcoff and Smyth???

So all Lowe/McTavish have to do is make the trades...

Which one do you turn down as the Islanders????

In real life Tavares >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Hall or Eberle or any of the other Oiler pretenders.

who makes their team mates better on the Oilers?

and Vishnovski has improved so much since he was an Oiler ???????
