I don't think the scouts factor that into their rankings. They want the best player not the one ready the fastest. They aren't going to pass up a player they think will be better in 5 years just to take one that is more physically mature now. That said obviously top 5-10 picks are going to be ready sooner than later picks in most cases. I would expect our highest first rounder to make an impact far quicker than Backlund or Brodie has. So I don't think NHL readiness is much of a concern or a factor for us. They'll take the best player available regardless of whether he's ready now or in a year or two.
This organization can't really afford to take an inferior player who can play right away. We need to do what is best long term not short term.
