She had a good sense of humor about her weight (as a person with a weight problem myself I understand having good humor about it; mind you I do think it's easier to be abnormally underweight than overweight).
A friend of mine posted a story to Facebook that after Rita sang the national anthem during the Jays/Phillies World Series a Philadelphia sports writer wrote that they should have brought her out on a forklift. Rita's response was "if I'm ever asked to sing the national anthem at a Blue Jays game again, I want to be brought out on a forklift, just because".
So I guess my point is, you can forgive the weight jokes, if they're funny Rita would have appreciated them.
