There is no correlation with the Oilers and their futility. They are the extreme and not the norm. There is a reason even well run franchises like the Devils, Hurricanes, and Predators are tanking. It's akin to folding a bad hand in a game of poker. Playing a bad hand to the end results in losing.
Bah, you're right, but what the hell? Let's do it the hard way. Win the next 3 games. Have a .500 season and let that be the worst year.

Draft a good player 7th to 11th overall. Maybe win the lottery (no party).

Draft two more good young players in round 1 this year and let them develop. Let's see what the offseason brings. We have cap space and can use it any number of ways.

Meanwhile, I would love to see Backlund and Baertschi get 5 or 6 points each this week and play well 5-on-5. I would like to see Brodie be +4 this week. Reinhart keep playing hard and get rewarded. Let's see Cundari hit play well.

Maybe Kipper has another great game or two and decides to stick around for 1 more year, while our goalie prospects sort themselves out.

Maybe Kate Upton becomes a Flames superfan and asks me if she can come over to my place and watch the games from now on.

All of the above is entirely plausible, no?

[Edit: Huh, Backlund isn't playing? Screw it. Let's tank. Kate can come over to my place and cheer for Nashville.]
