The Capitals are one of the hottest teams in the league and their game impacts the Jets playoff chances. At the very least, Manitoba should be getting the Capitals-Habs game.
Not sure, but I'd be shocked if CBC had cart blanch to do what they like on their split games. They can show the Caps vs. Habs in the Habs local areas, but I bet they don't have the rights to show that nationally or elsewhere. That right there is the value proposition of NHL Centre ice. If folks in Manitoba want to watch other teams fighting for playoff spots, then the NHL would like them to buy Centre ice. If when the games get interesting they start expanding the viewing areas, doesn't likely represent the best business situation for selling centre ice.
