I agree you and I have a different definition of average in this case. Wideman earned his cap hit which is great but he certainly didn't exceed my expectations for a $5.25M per season Dman so I don't think he had a really great season

This is a silly argument. At a salary cap of $5.25M, and with expectations of putting up 40+ points as a D-man, simply accomplishing that goal is having a great season, because it was expected that the season be great in the first place.
By your logic, Sidney Crosby can never have a "great" season, just average ones because he is paid and expected to be the best player in the league each year. Unless Sid demolishes the records book every year, we are going to say he had an average season?
