It's a mod that can easily cost a couple grand to implement, and it doesn't necessarily "solve" the problem, as the only way to 100% rectify it is to eliminate the IMS from the engine design (which Porsche eventually did). But yeah, it's not a bad thing to get.
And yeah, you might not like hearing about it, but I figured the guy should at least know there's a small chance that he might need to replace the engine at some point. I mean there's a reason the M96-engine generation of Porsche's is a lot cheaper than others, and part of that is the RMS/IMS threat. Something like 5% have had this issue.. that's 1 out of 20 cars.
They are still fantastic cars, and I would say they will be much more reliable than any other german car of that vintage, but it's something to keep in mind. It didn't stop me from buying one, but at least I knew the risks.
