I don't see the point in going after RFA's this season, sounds more like something Toronto should do as they're now on the upswing. The Flames are not.
If anything, it makes sense to help teams get out of cap problems by taking on a bad contract or 2 in exchange for additional picks in this years draft. Calgary currently has 9 picks in the upcoming draft. 10 to 12 is probably ideal for a team short on prospects and assets.
Timonen has 1 year at $6M left on his contract, Heatley has 1 year at $7.5M. That amount of cap space can fill 3 or 4 roster spots for these teams, that should be worth a draft pick or 2 to Philly and Minnesota.
