I am fully aware that it may be better for a draft pick to lose every game going forward, but there is a huge downside to that, and winning a few at the NHL level helps stem that loser mentality so many here seem to embrace.
I don't see anyone with a loser mentality here and I think that comment is quite insulting to the long time fans of this team.

You want to talk about a loser mentality, look at what the Flames have done over the past 20 years, especially the past five or six. This whole idea of just trying to make the post season and see what happens is a loser mentality. The whole idea of trying to build around that one guy, instead of building a team, is a loser mentality, especially based on results. The Flames have displayed a loser mentality because they refuse to learn from past mistakes and keep going through the same process time-and-time again hoping for a different result. That's a loser's mentality and it's borderline insane.

The fans here want a new direction. They want some new players worth a damn to cheer for. They want that elusive player the franchise has been incapable of drafting in the past 20 years - a number one center. A few painful couple weeks of losing could produce that player that we've been told for two decades we desperately need. The fans are smart enough to recognize that it is likely worth it to bite the bullet and go through the very short period of losing to earn that player - take a step backward to take several steps forward. That's not a loser mentality. That's the opposite.
