You're forgetting about taxes.
Also forgetting about, you know, every single aspect of adult life he will have to pay for during and after his ELC runs out.
But yeah, you guys are all right, a payout of 480K gross over three years is definitely enough to risk your entire future for, instead of waiting a couple years to get the same payout anyway...
