I have also gone back, and it wasn't "very very easy" as you put it. Everybody's situations are different. It would have been a lot easier for me to stay in university, but life situations are uncontrollable sometimes.
At any rate, I will never say it's a bad idea to get your degree, I have no problems with him pursuing his education goals.
