I guess the question is: What type of coach is Hartley?
Is he an Xs and Os kind of coach? Is he more of a player's coach? Is he a teacher who knows how to work with kids?
On the one hand, he has been a sacrificial lamb. He inherited an old core that needed to be ripped out and now has to deal with that fact. On the other hand, if he didn't know that the team was on the decline when he was hired, I question his judgment.
There have been a few signs of improvement this year. I'm not sold on him but unless I see that there is a coach that is a perfect fit available, I don't really see firing him as being a step forward for the team. In my opinion, we need a strong Xs and Os coach who works well as someone who is patient with kids and willing to teach them the ropes.
Hartley seems pretty laid back and comes off as a player's coach. I don't really know if that is what the team will need.
