As for Burke.....I think he is a well intentioned man. He has been a successful GM everywhere he has gone. He is just a bit to much for me though.
However if it came down to Feaster vs Burke. I would go with Burke all the way.

I could think of a lot of reasons why Feaster would not be let go even if it was in the plans.
The next GM could still be working for another team and Feaster is still the only one with irons in the fire (contract negotiations, trades, draft info) until the next GM is ready.
The next GM may have set certain terms before moving in, like wanting a clean slate. It would be extremely difficult for a new GM to come in and deal Iginla as his first duty. Talk about the hot seat.
The incoming GM might also not have the best read on player value since he has not been with the team all year.
Switiching GMs is sometimes a bit of a transition. It's not always best to go cold turkey.
