His seat started getting hot after ROR. From that time to now was about 3-4 weeks? If Flames are going to look for a replacement, they actually need to take their time in finding a new candidate (and actually do that process this time); and then the new GM would have to asses the situation from the front office, coaches, and the players. Once that's done, then he has to make a plan of what to do.

The timeframe to get him hired would likely take 1-2 weeks. Then to settle in would be a few days. Should the GM would only get a week or two to figure out what to do, and execute. That's too ask in what is a very important time period for the future of the franchise. If you're going to make moves, you want to make sure you make the right ones.

Also you have to consider that perhaps the owners aren't just considering replacing the GM, but looking for a new man to be team president. If you're going to hire a person that will pretty much control how your hockey team is going to be run for the long term, you want to take your time to find that person also.

Basically, there wasn't enough time to find a replacement that could conduct the trade deadline event once questions of management started to gain true traction.
