I think this is being overblown. We shouldn't really have to be discussing his personal life, everyone has their own issues and whatever. The thing is, it's a business decision and he impeded the Flames from making a deal that would be beneficial to the franchise. I'm not sure how that can be overlooked.
Maybe I'm being a bit harsh, but I see absolutely no place for sentiment in pro-sports. The money and fame these guys get is more than enough compensation for being traded and having to relocate.
If he wants to retire, thats fine. But if he doesn't have an NTC in his contract, then he shouldn't be able to refuse a trade. It's as simple as that.
