The only thing we do know is that Toronto was given permission to talk to Kipper, and Kipper said he's reluctant to sign an extension because he isn't convinced he could deliver on his end of the deal.

Him questioning his ability impacts only 1 thing; his decision if he wants to sign an extension. Which is his right. If Toronto decides that trading for Kipper is dependent on the extension, then that's Toronto's right.
It became public knowledge that he had at the very least told Feaster that he needs to be confronted before any trade was made. If we knew that, the other 29 GM's had to have knows it as well. If you're another GM, without hearing that, why would you need to get a guaranteed extension when he's already signed for another year?

I would put good money on the extension requirement being a result of he and his agents requirements. Maybe I'm totally wrong, but that's how I see it right now.

I doubt you're saying that Kipper should have agreed to sign an extension even if he didn't want to just so the Flames could get a pick, but that's the only way that Kipper is "costing" the Flames a pick.
No I'm not saying that at all, you're right, sorry if I gave that impression. Just disagree on the first part which leads us to him having to speak to other teams GM's and explain himself in such a way. At this point, yes, I agree he shouldn't lie to other teams and give them the impression he'll sign long term only to retire.
