Same result, but one way is a lot messier. I'm not sure why anyone would think that there was ever another outcome, especially the way that his contract was structured.

Someone actually brought this up, and apparently the consensus is that the NHL wouldn't nullify the deal. I think thats where the uncertainty comes to play.
I am not saying the Kipper wasn't a great goalie. Its been known for years that he is a little "different". Plus, even if he was to retire at the end of the season, some teams are willing to give up assets on a rental.
