Dumb? You tell that to the thousands of worker up in Fort Mac living in Camp away from their families. They are willing to do it to pay bills and provide for their families. This guy is making Millions of Dollars, he committed to a contract, similar to hundreds of other players in the NHL, but he wants to be the only one to dictate his future, even though his contract says he isn't in control of that.
The Calgary Flames are allowed to trade him and his contract to any other team in the NHL, and because he threw a temper tantrum, he killed his trade value, and now will retire without the Flames getting anything. And I get that he is allowed to retire. Then be a man, honor your contract. If you want to retire, then retire, don't be a Lindros.
