Although this is from a weaker draft year, I think it illustrates exactly why we need to trade up to get another pick in the top 10, if not top 5. Outside of the top 10, generally the percentage chance of a pick panning out to more than just an NHL capable player drops off significantly. Like others said, the best thing Flames management can do is to idiot-proof this draft for themselves as best they can. Top 5 are no-brainers. Top 5-10 are pretty straight forward too (Lindholm, Monahan, Nurse, Pulock, Shinkaruk). The last thing we want is to trade away our beloved Jarome, Jay, and subsequently tanking the season, only to have 1/3 picks really turn out for us.
This is the great part about Edmonton getting their "suck" on a few years before us... We get to learn from all
their mistakes. Cut some corners.
