Well obviously Iginla found it USEFUL to cherry pick one franchise. Limited NTCs are there to protect players from being traded to teams they don't want to play for. Full NTCs are there to protect players who don't want to be traded without their approval. NMCs are there to protect players from being traded or waived without their approval. Iginla had the right to cherry pick one franchise, he exercised that right.

Does submitting a written list of teams a player is willing to go to equate to waiving a player's right to veto a trade? Regardless of the answer, all I'm saying is that it would be foolish to do so. Like I said, if I had an NMC, I'm controlling the process. I'm not waiving anything until I'm sure I got the deal I want. But you can go and field offers from my list of teams as they are the teams I MIGHT be willing to waive my NMC for and if my GM is smart he'll probably ask me my preferences.

Agree with the process or not, this isn't the first time Feaster has gone to a player with different proposals. He did the same thing with Brad Richards. It's just that for some reason we heard about it. Doug MacLean said that the reason the Luongo to Leafs deal fell through was that Luongo refused to waive his no trade. Presumably, Luongo did submit a list of teams he would be willing to accept a trade to. We just didn't hear about it until now and it's still just speculation. Clearly, there is a practice of asking the team's one-time "franchise player" for a list of teams he's willing to waive his NTC/NMC for, and a practice of going back to the player when there's an acceptable proposal instead of asking for a player to waive his NTC/NMC on paper for a list of teams and then wait to be traded.
