In these deals, you're supposed to get a secondary roster player to offset salary, and with the Blues now having 9 D, don't tell me they couldn't have made something work. We couldn't get Kris Russell?
I don't buy the 'best goalie not in the NHL' line for a second; while we could have a Fasth on our hands, our luck would likely favor a couple Karlssons. I hope I'm wrong, but are we seriously going into next season with Ramo and Berra as our two goalies? I can't see why or how Kiprusoff stays around with things looking the way they are.
The flip side is, at least the organization has recognized how important the draft is, and if we have 3 firsts in the deepest draft in a decade, we picked the right year to learn that lesson. To his credit, Feaster appears to have done a really good job rebuilding the farm system. And maybe we've all undervalued just how immovable some of Sutter's contracts truly were.
I still don't like these last two trades, but if the first rounders pan out, I suppose it's all worth it.
