things are going pretty well for the Flames re-build wise

How so? If they'd have eaten some of the $6.6M (say $1M each year) he becomes a lot more attractive. Feaster himself was talking to TSN here in the eastern time zone about 40 mins back, and he said Bouw submitted a list of teams he'd be interested in going, but because of his cap hit and 1 year left, many of those teams backed off which led to only a few negotiating. You're oversimplifying by stating they have 3 first rounders. They have 1 lottary (their own), and 2 presumably very low picks. In past years, those low 1sts either don't pan out or turn into longer term prospects. Very rarely are they impact players in the 25-30 range. Secondly, for your best forward and best d-man, you should expect more than 2 low 1st rounders. It's like selling your company for $1M and saying, "great, I have 1 Million dollars!", but finding out your company was actually worth $1.7M. Sure you have some assets, but what you got was less than what you should have gotten. Shockingly, even Bob McKenzie was fairly vocal about the lesser than expected return.
