I understand that this is market value if you insist on not keeping any of the 6.8 million next year - but why not? They have only 40 mil committed next year with more vets to go I'm sure and are really only on the hook for 35 since Kipper's deal is a 5.8 cap hit for 1.5 million.
Why not just eat 2 million bucks and get a better return and make the rebuild shorter? Isn't that a better investment in the team than spending 2.5 million re-signing an Anton Babchuk or even more getting Wideman? Makes no sense at all when you've been willing to throw money down the drain on expensive UFA signings for years that ownership would cheap out at this stage.
