I'd rather have the better player than the centre. Just because the Flames have been stupid about it doesn't mean centers don't exist in the world. Montreal's one of the best teams in the league this year without elite centres.
If you're picking in the top 5... and are going to suck for 2-3 years there's no reason to reach for centre at this point.
