Historically the Flames have had a lot of success with NCAA players.

88-89 Stanley Cup champs had:

Joe Mullen (Boston College)
Joe Nieuwendyk (Cornell)
Gary Suter (Wisconsin)
Joel Otto (Bemidji)
Colin Patterson (Clarkson)

Add to that Brett Hull who we drafted from the NCAA & its obvious we had a lot of success drafting college players back then. Our very best team had a solid core of NCAA players to compliment the great CHLers & Europeans (Loob).

These days I'd say everyone would happily take a Toews, Sharp or a Quick or any of the other great NCAA players above some of the dud CHL players we drafted.
