Otherwise it means nothing. The status of Despres, Morrow et al has nothing to do with their status as first round picks; rather their status as first round picks has a lot to do with their value and the fact that they have played up to it.

I was speaking from a fans perspective.
To the casual (and even most passionate) fans out there the label of a "1st round pick" gives a player more value and leeway as you said. You would be fooling yourself if you believed otherwise in my opinion.
Agostino has specifically enjoyed an extremely productive collegiate career yet due to the fact that he was a measly fifth round pick two years ago coming out of a high school hockey program suggests that he was a throw in to most fans.
I guarantee you that very few fans would be upset with this deal if it was Olli Maata included instead of one of Hanowski or Agostino due to draft pedigree alone. That is all I was getting at with my post.
