This is absurd. Bouwmeester has already shown that he's not somebody who you can build around. He's never going to be like Denis Potvin, Scott Stevens, Al MacInnis, Niklas Lidstrom, etc.
In another post, you referred to him as "an anchor." This can't be serious. With some improved play, this is exactly the reason to try and sell high. That cap space is too valuable to keep tripping over this same log. The Flames are never going to win with this guy. Maybe with their culture, history and top players, Detroit could better utilize his skills.
If you're so concerned with 30 minutes - that $6.8MM (or whatever he makes) would save so much, that a minutes eater could be had for 1/2 that price. The Flames are going to suck for another season or 2, so it really doesn't matter how the minutes get divided up.
The best thing is to commit to doing a rebuild properly. Meanwhile, you guys need to quit obsessing over what Edmonton does or doesn't do. The Flames & Oilers haven't had any real competition since the early 90's (probably before a lot of you were even old enough to remember). So much hot air getting blown in this thread.
