I cant speak for what you are feeling but there was no contradiction. I feel King is probably too integral with the new arena to be outright fired so logically he would get promoted to a higher position where he would be overseer of the Calgary Flames Enterprise which includes the Flames, Stamps, Hitmen, Roughnecks and not president and CEO of the Flames. He won't be involved in daily operations of the Flames and more involved in the overall business of all the organizations like advertising, new facilities development, other acquisitions, etc.
You can't deny the man has strengths when it comes to the business side of professional sports so he should focus on that full time and let hockey men run the hockey operations.
