I will give Regehr this though, he is still a mean SOB and does a pretty ok job of clearing the front of the net. But as far as outlet passes, ability to hold the line, and stick work goes Butler is the better player and he is way cheaper.
We didn't "also get Kotalik". We got rid of Kotalik in that trade.

oops. yeah we got Paul Byron. I usually try to cut out horrible trades from my head.
He didn't need to get better since joining Buffalo, he was actually playing pretty well for the Flames and definitely a lot better than Butler ever has played for the Flames.
And Butler can make good outlet passes? Then why does he turn the puck over so many times? Why does he always find himself hemmed in his own zone?
So you watched a couple Buffalo games and you've got all you need to say Butler is playing better than Regehr. Alright, got you. I don't watch Buffalo play much either, but if Regehr is in fact worse than Butler then he must be having one of the worst seasons in his career.
