Media types are arguing that the Flames could have gotten Iggy to sign off on his list in advance, and essentially waive his NMC in advance for the clubs on his list. In that scenario, the Flames wouldn't have needed his final sign off on a deal to those clubs because he'd have already provided it.
The media is right, the Flames could have done this, but only if Iggy was willing to do that, he still controls that. And I can't think why he would, what he did was in his best interest. I agree, a dick move if he submitted a list, but can't think why he'd give up any control of the process, that's why he negotiated an NMC.
