I think it's possible that Feaster is already heading out the door. Feaster said that he isn't the guy to rebuild a team, plus some of his decisions have been bad and I doubt the owners have confidence in him.
I think maybe they asked him to tear it down on his way out so that the incoming GM (likely Burke) can start putting it together without having to worry about fan backlash.
It wouldn't be the first time a team did this (or hired an interim GM to do it).

If we assume this to be the case (which I'm not saying it is, merely playing devil's advocate) then the people above Feaster deserve to be fired too. They should be more concerned about getting value from these players and acting in the best interests of the franchise rather than worrying about the optics of hiring someone new to tear it all down.
If their intention was to put a figurehead like Feaster in place just to get ripped off in bad trades so his replacement can come in smelling like roses and sunshine, then the Flames are in more trouble than I thought.
(although again, I don't believe this to be true - I think it's a simple case of having the wrong people in charge)
