People need to actually take a look at the Boston deal. It was downright awful.
1) Conditional First: WTF? Boston has cap issues. If Iggy doesn't light it up, they aren't offering him a good contract, and he is not re-signing there. Even then, Boston still needs to re-sign a starting goalie and backup goalie, which will probably combine for 5-6 mil in cap space used, which makes it impossible for them to sign Iggy unless he takes a massive discount.
2) Potential bottom pairing d-man....The Flames have about a dozen of those in their system now. They're virtually worthless and tend to walk after not working out: see Pelech.
3) Borderline Russian prospect. He can join all those other borderline top 6 Russian players in the NHL....oh no wait, those no longer exist. It's 2013, and they all play in the KHL now. There are only 22 Russian players in the NHL, and none of them are journeymen or struggling players. Russians only play for their pay-day these days. That means they become 3+ mil players right out the gate, or they go back to Russia for 3+mil, and I don't blame them. However, you don't put stock in them either.
So basically, the Boston deal was Iggy for Negrin or Pelech.
