I grew up in the 90's watching power rangers and ninja turtles. When the Flames were the young guns we used to go and watch the game at the Dome never expecting too much, just a good time. I was a hockey fan at a young age and I always had this small Penguins jersey that I would wear. When we traded for Iggy I assumed we had made a big mistake but his 3rd season quickly turned him into a reason to watch the flames.
I followed hockey a hell of a lot more than I used to and I had someone to look up to. After every game I would go outside and shoot at the net pretending I was playing with Jarome. I know there are no such things as super heroes, but for me this guy was my hero.
Today, was the darkest day I have ever had as a flames fan. Even though Iggy was an extreme class act and kept his emotions in check, I couldn't help but fight back tears. Seeing Conroy's and Cammy's faces for that brief second did me in and I turned into a giant baby.
I am extremely happy that he has the best chance to win a cup and I hope he does. I will be watching every single Penguins game for the rest of season cheering on Iggy. I will be watching the flames as well but I won't be going out of my way like I used to. I hope one day Iggy can return to the flames so we can give him a proper send off.
Flames... Lower your ticket prices and begin the process of a rebuild because without my Hero I don't see why we should be paying these ridiculously inflated prices to watch what could be the Young Guns 2.0. Families can barely afford to take their kids to games as it is right now. You can see with that with the poor play and high prices that the dome has tons of empty seats. It's time to begin a new era, let the families and kids come back and have a chance to find their Hero they are going to grow up with.
