The last word was Iginla's. With regards to the Boston trade, it is possible that either of these things happened:

1. The first rounder was actually conditional on Iggy resigning, could've potentially been a disaster for Calgary
2. Iggy vetoed the trade

I think Jarome had a high preference to go to Pittsburgh to play with Crosby/Malkin. Maybe Feaster could get more from Pittsburgh, but I feel this will give Iggy the best chance to win the cup and reunite with his pal Crosby, so I'm not surprised if Feaster was cornered into the deal.

The prospects we received in the deal may or may not pan out to be solid regular NHLers, but it seems that Feaster and Weisbrod really like making gambles on players they feel good about (see Jankowski).

If the Flames actually wanted maximum value from Iginla, they should've traded him 3 years ago. I think that a deal similar to the Boston deal would've been the best possible return they could get at this point. The Pittsburgh return is less appealing but it's probably what Jarome wanted the most.
