Welp, the time is upon us. Onions may be at a premium later today in Flamesland.

10:30am, the final goodbyes are said by the Captain, covered likely by every media outlet locally and TSN, SNet, and Fan 960. I assume online at the Flames website and at all of the above websites as well will stream this.

I also assume this is closed to the press. Shame really, as something like this is as much a goodbye to the fans and the city from a guy who was a close part of the city, as it is a news story for the press, and I am sure there are thousands of people who would like the chance to show appreciation for the decade and a half service he'd provided on and off the ice in this city before he jets off to a land far away.

Also a shame is the fact that Iginla won't get a proper 19,289 fan Saddledome send off until the fall/winter/spring of next season when he comes out of the visitors' tunnel. Fitting, however, that his final home game as a Flame, he scores the game winning goal with the same leadership, tenacity and resolve he scored many of his 525 goals while wearing the Flames colors.

Rough day and long day/night yesterday for those that follow the team and I suspect Thursday March 28 won't be any easier to swallow as a Flames fan.
